Wayward: The Blog Series

Forget all the negative connotations of the word as it’s defined online. Go back to its origin.

“Wayward: to go in a direction away from something.”

Sometimes it’s the only way to find yourself.

The focus of my first blog series is based on my screenplay, Wayward, and relates to my pilgrimage on the Camino Ingles as well as my pilgrimage of the pen as a screenwriter. The following two entries will serve as a short primer on screenwriting and then we’ll move forward keeping that information in mind. That’s the teacher and writing coach in me, not wanting to lose anyone in the jargon.

This blog is about the behind-the-scenes thoughts and events that created the screenplay, shifted the plot lines, and shaped the characters. It’s about the personal journey that led to my writing it. And it’s about the scenery, which I hope to do justice to with my photographs. When this series is complete, I’ll move on to another screenplay, likely Homing Instincts, as it came in second place in the Toronto Women Film Festival competition, and was a finalist in the Vancouver International Women in Film screenwriting competition. At least that’s the plan.

As for Wayward, it’s a romantic dramedy that was a semi-finalist (top 100) in Scriptapalooza, one of the largest international screenplay competitions in the world. It also came in second place in the Comox Valley International Film Festival screenplay competition.

If you are interested in following the blog, I’d suggest taking a look at the Wayward pitch deck on my home page. A pitch deck gives producers a quick peek into a script without having to read it. If it catches their attention, they may request to see the screenplay. The images in the pitch deck help demonstrate the tone a screenwriter is going for.

I invite you to share and follow along.

Ultreia! Forward, together.
