Flatter Terrain, Fun & Games, and Firsts

“Whimsy doesn’t care if you are the driver or the passenger; all that matter is that you are on your way.” —Bob Goff

From A Rua on through Ordes, the scenery was spectacular. I was particularly struck by the early morning mist in the field, so much so that I hung out by the fence to watch it shape-shift and disappear.

A delightful stage on the Camino as I made my way through O Coto, with all its whimsical stone and metal statues made by a local artist. Farren and Liam had some “fun and games” time with them, too, especially the “rock solid” couple.

In addition to the flat terrain that wove from country road to forest, a massive highlight was finally experiencing other pilgrims on the road with me, merging from the Ferrol route, on foot, and by bicycle. It was the first time I heard “Buen Camino,” from another pilgrim.

Having those “fun and games” times are important in any relationship, on or off the page. They offer a reprieve from the daily grind, drama, and conflicts and allow you to flesh out your characters.

My challenge to you is to write a “fun and games” scene.

Dig into your memories for one to give your characters, perhaps.

Or take yourself on a field trip to a local park or beach to inspire your playful side.

Ultreia! Forward, together.
